The objective of the Society is to develop a village community, where residents work together to create and maintain an attractive and sustainable environment.

Membership of the Society is automatically extended to all residents of the village, aged sixteen years, and over. The Committee, of a maximum of twenty members, of which three are officers, is elected by members, who are present at the AGM, held each year, no later than the end of November.

Social events, to bring the residents of the village together and, at the same time, to raise money towards the cost of the spring and summer planting and grass verge cutting, are held throughout the year. From March until October, the floral displays, in over fifty containers, situated around the village, provide a riot of colour. Not only does this benefit the residents of the village but, we hope, is also appreciated by the many visitors, on their walk to the woods or Ravenfield Ponds, or simply on their drive through the village. And when the floral displays are finished, over the Christmas period, the wall mounted hayracks are decorated with seasonal displays. Garden areas, at the entrance to the village, on Pingle Lane, on Main Street, on Church Lane and at the bottom of St. James View are maintained by Society members and regular litter picking is carried out, in order to keep our village looking cared for.

Residents of the Old Village, who would like to get involved in the activities of the Society, should look out for the flyers, that are regularly distributed, house to house. Any resident interested in seeking election to the Committee or willing to volunteer, in any other capacity, can contact the Secretary, Katrine Greenwood by phone 07753825279 or by email @ kate.2.g@talktalk.net.
